The Earth doesn’t need us, but we need the Earth!

The story began in 2008, when two engineers Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger founded the GreenTec Awards — a new environmental award. This could easily be just another among many awards. But a well thought-out concept gave the award much bigger meaning. It became Europe’s largest environmental and economic award ceremony.

The GreenTec Awards is a glamorous event, also dubbed the Environmental Oscars, at which celebrities, politicians, scientists and economists shine in the “green light” to show their support for environmental issues. The annual event is a platform to put environmental technologies and commitment in to the spotlight. Excellent organization, extensive media coverage and maximum public attention give the event and awards even bigger significance.

GreenTec Awards 2015

On May 29th, 2015, guests who care about our common future, gathered at the GreenTec Award ceremony at Berlin’s Tempodrom.

Green in green carpet is more than just a color

At the beginning distinguished guests walked on the green carpet, which for this occasion replaced the famous red carpet and is an excellent example of implementing sustainable ideas in everyday life. The green carpet by Vorwerk reflects each and every feature of being green. It’s made of a high-quality sustainable material that comes from already used and regenerated nylon — ECONYL®.

Nothing is left to chance at the GreenTech Awards with each element of the event reflecting various aspects of sustainability and its benefits.

The importance of this event is emphasized by its high profile guests and the promotion of environmentally friendly behavior.

The exhibition provided a space for sustainable companies to present themselves in a very innovative manner and gave visitors the opportunity to test new technologies and products that all share the common ground of environmental commitment.

Before and after event, ECONYL®’s photo booth was full of guests who had fun taking selfies with funny props. We created a joyful photo gallery you can find on our website and on Pinterest.

Guests and media representatives were of the importance of GrenTec Awards’ mission and were happy to be part of it.

The green topic of the event is reflected throughout entire scenography.

The main presentation of the awards ceremony is always magnificent! This year was no exception — even the introduction was spectacular.

GrenTec Awards 2015 winners

Most innovative green products, projects, companies and environmental technologies excelled in 10 competition categories: Automobility, Construction & Living, Energy, Lifestyle, Production, Recycling & Resources, Travel, Water & Sewage, Communication and Urbanization.

Two special awards were also presented:

  • Galileo Wissenspreis
  • ProSiebenSat.1 Accelerator Startup-Prize for companies younger than three years.

Some sponsors made excellent use of their appearance at the awards ceremony to represent their achievements in a different way.

We shouldn’t forget to mention the special guests who shined a light on the important cause. Among them, Dr. Wladimir Klitschko, professional Ukrainian boxer and WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion, who contributed a presentation with his views on the environment and sustainability.

Nena, one of the most successful German musicians of all time, gave the event a unique closing. The singer, who had gained international fame in 1983 with her legendary song »99 Luftballons«, took the GreenTec stage to receive special recognition. Perhaps it is not well known, but Nena has been devoted to the environment for a long time. This fact is often reflected in her songs that talk about the power and beauty of nature and the importance of environmental protection. It is Nena, who also emphasized the thought from the beginning of our article: “Earth doesn’t need us, but we need the Earth”. For her years long efforts to raising awareness and her perseverance to do something to the environment, Nena received a special musical award.

It was a wonderful night as guests enjoyed themselves and the winners shined. We wish them to make good use of the media attention and inspire others with their success as new generations take their first steps on the sustainability path.

Let us conclude with the introductory thought Peter Altmaier, Head of the Federal Chancellery and former Federal Minister for the Environment, gave in his welcome speech.

It was a pleasure to again be part of GreenTec Awards. See you next year on the green carpet!
